Know Jesus? It’s not just about believing He exists or even believing He is God’s Son. It’s about knowing Him better than you know your best friend, and knowing that He knows you and has a purpose and plan for your life.

Yes, the first step is to believe that He exists. But that is just the start of an incredible journey. The Bible says that all who come to God must believe He is there, and that He will reward those who earnestly seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). The Bible says that we can see God in the things He has created (Romans 1:20). Look up to the sky and consider outer space. Our planet, Earth, is spinning at approximately 1,040 miles per hour. It is orbiting the sun at 1,110 mph, and the earth, sun and all the rest of our galaxy is flying through space at 9,300 mph. Is it possible that there is no end out there in space? Is it because it was created by an eternal God, who also created man to live forever?

So, after we believe God exists, how do we come to know His Son, Jesus? How do we earnestly seek Him and exercise faith that we will be rewarded by Him? The first step is true repentance. Repentance isn't just feeling sorry for the wrong things you have done. Repentance is completely turning away from your life of sin. When the first people on earth sinned against God, they handed over their authority and dominion to God’s enemy, Satan. He has wreaked havoc on the earth as its spiritual prince. The expansion of wrong doing in the Earth has hurt and ultimately led to the death of so many. God sent His Son, Jesus, to live a perfect life to pay the price for the wrong doing we have all done. You see, it took that which was sinless to pay the price so that those of us who have sinned could join in on His victory. The next step is to take ourselves off the throne of our lives, allow Jesus to take that place as our Lord, and then commit to following His leadership everyday for the rest of our lives. When you have done that, you become a child of God and His Holy Spirit lives inside you.

How do I ask Jesus to forgive and for His Spirit to come inside of me? You simply pray or talk to God. Tell Him that you believe that He exists. Tell Him that you believe that His Son paid the price for your sins with His life and that He is now risen again and living in Heaven as your Lord. Ask His Spirit to come live inside of you. When you do this you become “born again.” You get a fresh start on life. You see, you used to be a citizen of this world, but now you have been born into a new world. You have been born into the kingdom of God and your citizenship resides there. You are no longer under the dominion of the evil ruler of this world, Satan, but you are a child of God with equal inheritance with Jesus.

Now that you have prayed and are born again, you are totally new on the inside. Your spirit, the real part of you, has changed from a condition of spiritual death to life. You still have to deal, however, with wrong thought processes you have built in your mind as well as cravings and addictions you may have in your body. This comes from renewing your mind and building your spirit so that it is in control of your mind and body. This is done by daily spending time with God in prayer and most importantly reading God’s book, the Bible. A great place is start is the book of John in the New Testament. Through reading this you will learn to know Jesus better and build your faith. You also need to get into a life-giving church. This is a church that teaches the Bible in purity, rather than the opinions of man. There are many life-giving churches out there that you can become a part of to learn more about living your life for God.
